Governance, Accreditation, and Scope of Practice
If you are investing time and money into a professional qualification, you deserve absolute clarity. This page explains the standards behind our training, the governing bodies involved, our trainers' credentials, and exactly what you can and cannot claim after graduation.
We believe in two things: authority and protection. Authority through recognised professional standards. Protection through a clear scope of practice and ethical boundaries.
The Regulation of The Coaching Industry
Coaching and NLP are generally self-regulated industries. There is no single global government body that legally mandates a universal curriculum to become a coach or NLP practitioner. However, “not legally required” does not mean “not important”.
Accreditation functions as a professional trust mechanism. It demonstrates that training has been reviewed against defined standards, that the provider operates within an ethical framework, and that the programme meets recognised competency criteria.
If you care about credibility, insurance access, corporate contracts, international recognition, and long-term positioning, accredited training is the intelligent choice.
The Coaching Masters operates on a simple principle: skill first, standards always. We build practical capability and pursue respected external accreditation because professional validation matters.
Coaching Due Diligence
If you are comparing providers, ask direct questions and request proof. The industry includes excellent training, but it also includes inflated claims and misuse of terminology.
Misuse of “ICF” Terminology
Some providers say they are “ICF aligned” or offer “ICF CCE hours.” CCE credits are continuing education hours for coaches who already hold an ICF credential. They are not the same as an ICF Level 1 accredited pathway that qualifies you toward ACC or PCC. A genuine ICF-accredited programme will clearly state its official level and be verifiable on the ICF directory.
Inferior Accreditors
Some accrediting bodies sound official but function primarily as membership directories rather than structured standard-setting organisations. A logo alone does not confirm credibility. Always check who the governing body is and whether it is widely recognised by insurers and the professional market.
Self-Proclaimed Trainers
Titles such as “master trainer” or “internationally certified” should be independently verifiable. NLP trainer status should be traceable through a recognised body such as ABNLP. Coaching credentials such as PCC or MCC should be searchable on the ICF directory.
Coaching Pathway with The International Coaching Federation (ICF)
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) is widely regarded as the leading global professional body for coaching. It is the most recognised credentialing organisation in the industry and is considered the benchmark for coaching standards worldwide.

Programmes must undergo structured review to demonstrate alignment with ICF’s competency model and education standards.
Our Coaching Accreditation Training Programme is officially ICF Level 1 accredited. This confirms the programme meets ICF’s required coach-specific education standards and competency alignment. It is not general personal development content. It is structured professional coach training.
Trainer ICF PCC Level
Our coaching training is delivered and overseen by trainers who hold senior ICF credentials, including Professional Certified Coach (PCC) status. This means your trainers have not only studied coaching theory, but they have been externally assessed on real coaching performance to international standards.
To achieve PCC status, a coach must typically demonstrate:
Upon successful completion, you receive a certification from The Coaching Masters confirming you have completed an ICF Level 1 accredited programme and met our internal assessment standards.
What you can claim is that you’re a Certified Coach with The Coaching Masters, that you completed an ICF Level 1 accredited coaching programme or that you’re an Accredited Coach with The Coaching Masters.
You may not claim to be “ICF certified” or “ICF credentialed” unless ICF has personally issued you an active ACC, PCC, or MCC credential.
If you wish to pursue an ICF credential, you apply directly to ICF using our training certificate and meet their additional requirements, including documented coaching hours and further assessment as required at the time.
NLP Pathway - American Board of Neuro Linguistic Programming (ABNLP)
The American Board of Neuro Linguistic Programming (ABNLP) is one of the most established and internationally recognised professional bodies within the NLP field. Within the NLP profession, ABNLP is widely regarded as one of the primary global reference bodies for formal NLP training standards, certification structure, and professional membership recognition.
Unlike ICF, where the programme itself is accredited at an organisational level, ABNLP operates slightly differently. In the NLP field, it is primarily the trainer who must first become accredited at Trainer level with ABNLP. Once a trainer holds recognised ABNLP Trainer status and meets their standards, they are authorised to deliver recognised NLP training and certify graduates in line with ABNLP requirements.
Our NLP programmes are delivered by ABNLP Certified NLP Trainers. Because our trainers hold recognised Trainer-level status with ABNLP, we are authorised to deliver training that meets ABNLP standards, and graduates are eligible to apply for ABNLP membership based on successful completion of our programme.
To qualify at Trainer level under ABNLP standards, an individual must typically demonstrate progression through multiple stages of competence, including:
Upon successful completion, you receive certification from The Coaching Masters as an NLP Practitioner and NLP Master Practitioner. What you can claim: Certified NLP Practitioner with The Coaching Masters, Certified NLP Master Practitioner with The Coaching Masters or you completed an ABNLP-accredited NLP training programme.
You may not claim to hold ABNLP membership or credentials unless you apply directly and receive confirmation from ABNLP. Graduates can apply for ABNLP membership by submitting proof of completion of our course.
Additional Governance & Professional Recognition
Alongside the International Coaching Federation and the American Board of Neuro Linguistic Programming, we also hold recognition with several other established professional bodies.
These organisations serve complementary functions. While they do not carry the same global benchmark weight as ICF in coaching or ABNLP in NLP, they provide additional layers of governance, quality review, and professional recognition.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Standards Office
The Coaching Masters holds certification from the CPD Standards Office, an international organisation that independently assesses and approves professional training for quality, structure, and measurable learning hours.
Complementary Medical Association (CMA)
The Coaching Masters is accredited by the CMA, an established professional association that recognises training providers demonstrating high standards within complementary and integrative disciplines.
International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine (IPHM)
The Coaching Masters is accredited by IPHM, a global accreditation board that recognises professional standards in holistic, complementary, and wellbeing-based training.
ACCPH – Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists
The Coaching Masters holds accreditation at an Ofqual equivalent Level 4 through ACCPH, a professional body that benchmarks programmes against recognised UK qualification frameworks and competency standards.
International Council for Online Educational Standards (ICOES)
The Coaching Masters is accredited by ICOES, a global body that evaluates and recognises online education providers against defined quality assurance and learning outcome standards.
Assessment & Completion Standards
We do not issue certificates for passive consumption. Certification is awarded once you demonstrate competence against clearly defined practical standards.
Assessment may include knowledge checks, written reflections, live skills demonstrations, observed coaching sessions, workshop participation, and required coursework. You are evaluated on applied skill and ethical use of the tools, not academic theory.
You do not “fail.” If you do not yet meet the standard, you receive structured feedback, further guidance, and the opportunity to be reassessed. Our role is to support you until you reach competency.
Specialist Training - Holistic Modalities & Core Renewal Therapy
In addition to Coaching and NLP, we offer specialist training for students seeking deeper capability in wellbeing and therapeutic-style work.
Holistic Therapy, including Holistic Modalities & Core Renewal Therapy, is a proprietary therapeutic coaching model developed by The Coaching Masters. It integrates evidence-informed psychological frameworks with structured coaching methodology and ethical safeguarding standards.
Graduates may use the title “Core Renewal Therapist (CRT)” as defined by The Coaching Masters. CRT does not qualify you to:
You are responsible for operating within the laws of your country or state, including advertising rules, informed consent, safeguarding duties, confidentiality standards, record keeping, and insurance requirements.
Insurance
Many coaches and NLP practitioners choose to hold Professional Indemnity Insurance and Public Liability Insurance. In some cases, insurers will require evidence of accredited training before offering full cover, which is another reason proper accreditation matters.
Insurance requirements vary by country, the services you offer, whether you work online or in person, and whether you incorporate therapeutic elements into your work. It is your responsibility to confirm with your chosen insurer that your qualification, scope of practice, and services are correctly disclosed and appropriately covered.
Holding recognised accreditation can significantly simplify the insurance process and strengthen your professional positioning.
